A 47-year-old woman from Goregaon committed suicide by jumping off the sixteenth floor of her building on Wednesday morning.
The police said that the deceased, Manisha Kabra, was suffering from depression and had been undergoing treatment for the last three years.
Surendra Pathainkar, senior police inspector of the Goregaon police station said Kabra was in her apartment at Anmol Tower on SV road at Goregaon (West), along with her father-in-law and younger daughter when she jumped off the parapet.
Kabra took the step when her husband Naresh, a stockbroker by profession had gone to the airport to drop off their elder daughter.
“Kabra’s house has grills but there is a small window through which she went on to the parapet,” said Pathainkar.
Pathainkar said when Kabra was standing on the parapet, a neighbour saw her.
The neighbour shouted out, but before she could call out for help she witnessed Kabra fall to her death. The neighbour then called the police and informed Kabra’s husband.
“Naresh was returning from the airport when he got the news. The family is in shock and they are unable to give us statement,” said Pathainkar.
The police have however recorded the statement of Kabra’s neighbour and other eyewitnesses.
The Goregaon police have registered a case of unnatural death and have sent Kabra’s body for post mortem.
Kabra’s elder daughter who had visited her mother for her delivery, returned from Delhi. “We are still trying to find out why Kabra was suffering from depression,” Pathainkar said.
