A 60-year-old woman was robbed of her ornaments worth Rs 80,000 after three men hypnotised her when she was on her way to Bandra station on Sunday.

The police and the victim said, the gang of three told her they were policemen who wanted to save innocent citizens from getting robbed.

Sunita Soneji was walking towards the railway station when three men approached her on S.V. Road.

“The men told me that a woman named Gangubai had been murdered in the area after her jewellery was looted. They told me the area is dangerous and asked me to remove my ornaments and keep them in my bag," said Soneji.

“They showed me a Mumbai Police ID Card and I trusted them,” she said.

“I think I was hypnotised as I did not even know when I removed my bangles, chain and ring and handed them over to the men. I walked a bit and then, like waking up from sleep, I felt a jolt and on checking my bag I realised I was robbed,” said Soneja.

She approached the Bandra police station.

“We have lodged a case of cheating, impersonation and robbery,” said Prakash George, senior police inspector of Bandra police station.
