The partially decomposed body of a 35-year-old unidentified woman was found in a suitcase at Juhu Koliwada on Thursday. The body was clad in a pair of shorts and a top and was wrapped in a blanket. There were strangulation marks around the neck.

Durai Swami, a sweeper, who was cleaning the area along with his wife Mallika, found the body near a large garbage bin.

Swami, curious about the contents of the cloth suitcase, used his penknife to rip it open. "I was sweeping the area when I found the suitcase. I was not shocked to find the body inside as we keep finding such gory things. I immediately informed the police," Swami said.

The Santacruz police have seized the suitcase, while the body of the woman has been sent to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem.

"We have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain whether the woman was raped before she was killed," said KMM Prasanna, deputy commissioner of police (zone 9).
