A girl, aged about 22, was found pleading with travel agents in Vashi for a free ticket to Goa. Sources said she could be Renu Rathi, the model who was found homeless on the streets of Bandra last December. Police said they are trying to confirm her identity.

The girl, identifying herself as Vaishnavi Bhatt, was doing the rounds of travel agents on the Vashi highway. She had been asking them to give her a free ticket to Goa, where she wanted to go for some peace of mind. The police said she seemed to be under the influence of drugs.

Raosaheb Sardesai, senior police inspector at Vashi police station said: “The girl is heavily intoxicated. Much of what she is saying does not make sense. She keeps changing her name.”

He added: “When we asked her about her parents, she said she didn’t want to go back to them”.

Asked if she could be Rathi, Sardesai said: “We do not have any confirmation on that.”

He said the police plan to send the girl to a rehab centre at Chembur until her identity is established and she is handed back to her family.
