Last minute disruption on the suburban train schedule on the Central Railway (CR) on Wednesday left commuters badly inconvenienced.
The problem arose on the stretch between Kalyan and Kasara, as CR authorities started construction work on two road over-bridges (ROBs), at Asangaon and Khardi respectively.
The authorities are widening the ROBs, from two lanes to six lanes. For this purpose, services were blocked, causing problems for those travelling to and from Kasara.
Although the construction work was scheduled between 3.20pm and 5.10pm, several services were cancelled from 12.20 onwards.
This also delayed services during the day, with trains on the fast corridor running nearly 10 minutes late.
The few trains that were running from Kasara were jam-packed, even during non-peak hours. Long distance services were also affected, with three trains running at least one hour late.
This further delayed suburban trains on the fast line, which were then diverted to the slow line.
Though there were no more cancellations beyond 5.30pm, marginal delays continued.
