The wife of developer Jayant Ajmera was found murdered at her residence in Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar (East) on Monday night.

Chetna, 51, was found with her throat slit, the police said, adding that she was alone at the time of the incident. The police suspect that one of the workers carrying out repairs at their residence in Vaishali Apartment may be involved.

According to the Pant Nagar police, the killers had used a kitchen knife, which was found next to the body. Also, valuables were found missing.

Chetna's body was discovered by her husband when he returned home from work at 8:15pm.

"We suspect that the murder was carried out between 2pm and 8.15pm. The knife used to kill her had been taken from the kitchen," said Sanjay Shintre, deputy commissioner of police of zone 7.

The police said they were questioning the security of the building.

However, sources told Hindustan Times that repairs and renovation work was being carried out at the Ajmeras' residence for the past few months.

None of the workers had been picked up for questioning till late in the night.
