The Manickpur police on Thursday arrested a 42-year-old motorman with the Western Railway (WR) for allegedly attempting to sodomise the 18-year-old son of another motorman, at the latter’s Vasai residence on May 26.

The police said the accused, Deepak Mandroi, has been remanded to police custody till June 3 after being produced before a metropolitan court.

According to the police, Mandroi lives in a housing society at Vasant Nagri in Vasai (East). The victim, who recently appeared for his Class 12 examination, lives in another building in the same society with his parents and sibling.

When the incident took place, the victim’s parents and brother were not in town. “After going to the victim’s residence on the pretext of checking on him, Mandroi touched the victim inappropriately and attempted to sodomise him. When the boy raised an alarm, Mandroi threatened him with dire consequences if he told anyone about the incident,” said an official from the Manickpur police.

The police have registered a case against Mandroi under sections 377 (for unnatural sex), 511 (for attempt to commit offence), and 506 (for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
