WR quarters rented out illegally

mumbai Updated: Aug 14, 2010 01:28 IST

The Tardeo police, who is investigating a case where Sanjay More, a Western Railway (WR) employee and his accomplice, Shadab Haidar molested a 28-year-old woman to whom More had illegally rented his government quarters, have stumbled upon several cases of WR quarters being rented out illegally.

A police officer from Tardeo police station said they discovered that several WR employees had illegally rented out their quarters without proper documentation.

More, who works with WR’s Jagjivanram Hospital in Mumbai Central, was allotted quarters at Belasis Road, which he rented out to the victim for a year against a lump sum yearly rent of Rs.42, 000.

The woman, a native of Rajasthan, had recently come to Mumbai. She had signed an 11-month leave and licence agreement with More.

The incident came to light last month on July 24, when the woman approached the Tardeo police and filed a case against More and Shadab, accusing them of barging into the flat and trying to rape her. The victim said that she somehow managed to escape.

The duo was arrested under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to Dattatray Patil, assistant police inspector of the Tardeo police station, “The duo was produced in the court, which has granted them bail.”
