Yerwada jail authorities have moved an application before the TADA court stating that allowed home food cannot be allowed for Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt as it is against the jail manual. The application would be heard next week.

After the apex court had upheld Dutt’s conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, Dutt had surrendered before the court on May 16 to commute his remaining sentence.

After surrendering before the court, the actor had requested to allow him medicines, home food and fan apart from the other regular articles.

The Yerawada jail authorities, where Dutt was shifted last week, has asked the court to review its decision of allowing him home food. The authorities said that home food is now allowed to the convicts as per the jail manual, and the convicts have to eat food prepared in the jail canteen.

Dutt was convicted by the TADA court for illegal possession a 9 mm pistol and an AK-56 rifle which were part of a consignment of weapons and explosives brought to India for coordinated serial blasts that killed 257 people and injured over 700 in 1993.
