This year, you can tell the Mumbai traffic police how to manage traffic effectively during the Ganesh festival.
They have invited suggestions from citizens for better traffic management during the 10-day festival that starts on Sept 11. The department, on Tuesday, posted a message on its official web page on Facebook asking people for ideas on how to minimise commuters’ woes. By Wednesday evening, at least 51 people had responded. Most urged the police to shut down pandals that encroached upon roads and blocked traffic.
“We have made arrangements based on experiences,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vivek Phansalkar. “This is a festival of the people and they should have a say too.” The idea behind the appeal,, Phansalkar said, was to give citizens a hearing. “Although we have everything in place, it is possible that somebody somewhere has an idea that will benefit us,” he added.
