Even as the Congress-led state government is backing assistant commissioner of police Vasant Dhoble’s crackdown on bars and pubs, a youth Congress worker is prominent among those who are organising protest against the police official.
Rahul Kanal, a Youth Congress worker and Bandra resident, has put up about 30 hoardings in the suburb and some other areas, and has also launched a Facebook page, ‘Dhoble: Oppressor of the innocent’.
He is also the organiser of a protest rally “against the moral policing that is destroying Mumbai’s nightlife and curbing freedom” at Carter Road in Bandra on Sunday. “This campaign is not a vendetta against ACP Dhoble, nor is it politically influenced by any party. But we don’t want innocent partygoers and visitors to be harassed. The authorities should know that browbeating citizens into submission won’t work,” said Kanal.
On his party’s support to Dhoble, Kanal said: “I am doing this in my personal capacity, not as a member of the Congress party.”
