Youth run over while crossing rly tracks at Vasai
A 20-year-old youth died and his friend was injured when they, and three others, were crossing the railway tracks near Vasai station on Saturday night.
A 20-year-old youth died and his friend was injured when they, and three others, were crossing the railway tracks near Vasai station on Saturday night. The Government Railway Police (GRP) officers said the group had met in the afternoon and had partied at a hotel.
After they had spent some time talking near the tracks, they began crossing over to the other side when a Virar-bound train knocked down the youth and his friend, GRP officials said.
The injured were identified as Steven Quadros (who later died) and Alwin Jude. The police said the group had met in the afternoon at Jude’s house in Vasai. Quadros, a resident of Bandra, was also present there. Later they went to a local restaurant where they ate and drank alcohol.
“Later, they were crossing the tracks at Vasai, when the train knocked Quadros down. Jude, too, sustained minor injuries in the incident. Quadros died in hospital,,” said P Bhangre, inspector of Vasai GRP.
While the police stated that Quadros died in the train accident, his family members claimed that Quadros was murdered. “There were no external injuries on the body. He died of internal injuries that led to internal bleeding. He had an injury behind his left knee and his eye was black and blue as if he was punched. We suspect he might have been killed and have asked the police to conduct a second post-mortem on him,” said Bosco D’Silva, a relative.
The police recorded Jude’s statement, in which he claimed they had met with an accident. The officials are, however, going to conduct a second post-mortem on Quadros following the family’s allegations.
The police said the train had halted after the accident. Locals along with some commuters had rushed the injured duo to Ravi Hospital. Family members of Quadros, however, shifted him to Umrao Hospital at Mira Road, where he succumbed to his injuries.
