University of Mumbai (MU) senate members from Yuva Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) boycotted the pre senate meeting and tea party organised by vice chancellor, Rajan Welukar on Saturday claiming that the university administration was not addressing issues raised by student organisations. Senate members from Students Teachers association (BUCTU) also boycotted the meeting.
Sudhakar Tamboli, senate member from MNVS said, "We took a step to boycott the meeting in protest for varsity’s inefficiency about addressing the issues we raised over the year, such as lack of security for women, lack of facilities in the university sports complex, food quality control in canteens.”
Pradeep Sawant, senate member from Yuva Sena said, "The university should first act on assurances made during previous senate meetings which include a white paper on flaws in examinations and role of Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL) for the delay in exam results."
MA Khan, registrar, MU said, "These senate members should have attended the meeting which was called to know about their demands on the issues to be discussed in senate. However, we have called a meeting between MKCL officials and senate members on October 10."
The university senate meeting is scheduled on October 17.
