Trust college students to take their campaigns to a whole new level. In the previous editions of their annual BMS festival Adorea, the students of Wilson College hosted a flash mob and a bike rally. But this year, they plan to up the novelty quotient by organizing a Zombie Walk for social cause. As bizarre as it may seem, students will be decked up as the scary undead and walk down Charni Road to spread awareness on the issue of hunger.

Although they are not popular in India, Zombie walks have been successful in the west as a tool for social advocacy. “Zombies are a trend these days, and the youth is interested in participating in something like this, especially since it concerns a prevalent problem like hunger,” says Bithiah Job, the student head of the event. The organisers feel that this is the most thrilling event they’ve held till date. “We’re all very excited. What could be better than having fun and promoting a worthy cause?”, says Kimberly Rodrigues, a student of the college.

As many as 20 colleges are participating in the event that will start today, from 5 pm. To look the part, the participants are leaving no stone unturned. “All of the colleges participating in the walk have their own make-up teams. Also, they have been given tutorials by us on how to carry off the look perfectly”, says Job.Ask her why they took up the issue of hunger and she explains, “The problem isn't that India isn’t producing enough food, because it is. Our fight is against the greed and corruption that is getting in the way of ensuring food security.”
