A gig to revive Delhi’s metal scene
The heavy metal scene in Delhi has always had a steady audience, with the city also playing host to metal giants such as Megadeth, recently. But many local bands feel that the past few years have not been that encouraging for the genre.music Updated: Dec 06, 2012 01:28 IST
"Until two years ago, the metal scene in Delhi was really strong and active. But, since a couple of years, the scene has gone lukewarm. Such gigs can help to revive it," says Bheem, the vocalist of Spear of Destiny, which plays a mix of heavy and death metal.
The other bands to perform at this gig include Fragarak — a five piece death metal outfit, Winter Gate, Poltergeist — a death metal band, and Necrofilth, which was formed in February 2012 as a two piece ensemble. "Initially, being just two people was a challenge. Getting heavy without a bassist was tough, but now we have overcome this. Lesser the number of people, the better it is," says Mohammad Kabeer, the drummer of Necrofilth.
These five bands, which will be performing at Café Morrison this weekend, were shortlisted from many entries. “Through this gig, we want to present some of the most promising metal acts of the city, so that avid listeners have a good time and even the non-metal fans get to know what this genre is all about,” says Sidharth Talwar of the café.
