The theme song for popular reality TV show Splitsvilla composed by Indian rock band Agnee, now gets lyrics. Through an initiative launched early this year, Create With Agnee, the band short-listed two lyricists over the Internet, Neeraj Sharma and Khurram Nisar, and had them pen down lyrics over a three-day-long writing workshop with Prasoon Joshi.

“The first version released two years ago without any lyrics,” says lead vocalist Mohan. “We tried writing but couldn’t come up with anything. So we decided to get the fans involved by relaunching the song this time.” The new version of the song was aired on the show last week. The song is also available for free download on the band’s Facebook page, Agneelive.

Besides this, the Pune rockers have their hands full. They will soon start composing music for two Bollywood flicks, Gulab Gang and Aalaap. For the movies, the band will collaborate with three singers chosen through a contest on MTV. “Aalaap is about a young college band based in Chhattisgarh. We’ll be playing a grunge song for the movie. Another song I’m kicked about will have an African sort of theme with sixteen people singing four-part harmonies,” adds Mohan.

Ask them if there’s a new album in the works? “We’ve released seven singles since last February. We’ll work on a few more and release the album by next April. We’re also working with Pritam on another Bollywood project, but I can’t say anything more at this point in time.”
