David Guetta fans were pleasantly surprised when hip-hop singer and producer Akon casually walked onto the stage grinning from ear to ear, towards the end of the show. According to the organisers of the Eristoff Invasion Festival, the singer’s entrance was completely unplanned and unexpected.
Guetta introduced Akon to the ecstatic audience, saying, “I’m pleased to invite Akon on stage here in Pune. I met him completely by chance, and this wasn’t planned in any manner. It’s strange, but this is exactly how I met him for the first time (on stage), three years ago.”
Frequent collaborators Akon and Guetta performed the final two songs of the night, both originally featuring Akon – ‘Sexy bitch’ from the 2009 album One Love, and ‘Crank it up’ from Guetta’s recent album, Nothing But The Beat.
“This is the first time ever we’re doing ‘Crank it up’ live. You guys are the first people in the world to listen to this,” Guetta said.
The Invasion festival, which saw a 6,000-strong audience, also featured opening acts by Indian artistes Dualist Inquiry and Anish Sood. Tickets for the event spanning Delhi, Pune and Bangalore were sold out several days prior to the shows.
