Actor Ali Zafar has recorded a qawaali to pay tribute to late singer Amjad Sabri, who was shot dead in Karachi on June 22. He will perform qawwali for the first time.
The singer-turned-actor will pay tribute to the popular qawwal at an award function today. When he got to know the opportunity, he immediately flew back to Pakistan and started working on the track.
“It’s a big honour for me to pay homage to a great artist besides hosting a grand celebration of one of our biggest award shows,” says Zafar, who has been part of Bollywood films such as Chashme Baddoor (2013) , Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011) , Kill Dill (2014) and Tere Bin Laden 2 (2016).
The singer had expressed shock after hearing the news of Sabri’s death and said, “It’s shocking and heart breaking. Don’t have words to express. Sad. I hope his murderers are brought to justice and his legacy lives on. I remember meeting him at the PSL match last. But my fondest memory with him is singing Channo many years ago on a bus ride to a cricket match. He was a gentle soul with a powerful voice. May God bless his soul”.
