What Is Jazz ?
Jazz is a musical genre that originated in the early 20th century in African American communities in the Southern United States.It was born out of a mix of African and European music traditions.
Its West African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation and the swung note.From its early development until the present day, jazz has also incorporated music from American popular music.
As jazz developed and spread around the world it drew on many different national, regional and local musical cultures.
Chakrapani's World School Of Music
Besides their many professional courses in different music genres, this institute also specialises in jazz music.It offers music aspirants from around the world and India jazz music training from trained teachers and experts in the genre.
After completing a rigorous diploma/certificate course the students here take exams that are held annually and biannually for instrumental jazz.
"Jazz is becoming very popular among the youth. We have lots of college students coming in to learn jazz," says CP Singh, founder member of the institute.

Established in April 2003, Performer's Collective is one of the largest private institutes for music and performing arts in Delhi.
The curriculum of the institute is based on the curriculum of London School of Rock.
"We wanted a course equivalent to international standards so we developed this course," says Jeremy Ward, executive director of the institute.
The school brings together a group of qualified music educators and prolific performers, and is open for all age groups.
Concerts and workshops are held throughout the year where students can showcase their talent. The institute is also currently
developing curriculum for specialised study in jazz.

Noida School Of Rock
Here, right form the beginning of the course, students are introduced to the specialised forms of jazz - music reading, scales and ear-training sessions.
Then comes the intermediate level, where they learn different genres such as bepop, modal, free style, latin and down tempo smooth.
Students are also given history lessons on the lives of famous jazz musicians, such as Joe Pass, Kenny Burrel and John Coltrane Billy Taylor.
The school also organises concerts yearly to give its students a chance to showcase their talents.

Parikrama School Of Rock
This institute is run by Sonam Sherpa and Subir Malik, members of the famous Delhi-based rock band Parikrama.
The institute believes that in order to strengthen jazz skills one must have a strong foundation, thus, they foremost focus on the history of jazz.
"In order to learn jazz one must know the history of jazz, as it not only gives one a basic idea of what jazz is but also helps them in developing a taste for this genre," says Sonam.
The courses are provided in basic, intermediate and advanced courses. They also have summer workshops.

School Of Symphony
This school has two centers in Delhi - Dwarka and Lajpat Nagar.
The trainers here are practicing jazz musicians from the industry that includes names such as Shivam Khare and Nishant Parashar. Here you can opt for courses in Jazz music and do majors in fields such as piano, guitar, vocals, drums and bass guitar.
"In India jazz is still not very popular, but in the coming years it is expected to become the most popular form of live music because of the challenges and thrills in improvisation and its ability to take from every other form of music," says Khare.
