Anushka Manchanda on Beyonce
‘Beyonce is mind blowing to begin with’
Beyonce deserves every one of the six Grammys she has won, because she’s the ultimate package, as far as pop stars go. People have to market singers in a certain way, but Beyonce is mind-blowing to begin with. Everyone from Katy Perry to Lady Gaga has a great voice, but when it comes to vocal chops, Beyonce is just awesome. Also, she never tries too hard – she’s so traditional, doesn’t do any gimmicks, and yet is exciting! Her song, Single ladies is ‘the’ chick song of the world. As soon as the song comes on at parties, girls just start losing it!
Ehsaan Noorani on Green Day
‘It’s a change from their usual style’
Green Day’s 21st Century Breakdown is a fantastic album and the award for ‘Best Rock Album’ is definitely well deserved. You have to hand it to the band with this album – it’s a change from their usual style and you can see they’ve come a long way from their first album. Yet, they have maintained a certain freshness in their writing, while their production is still as good as ever. It’s a progressive album and I’m glad the jury has recognised something so different.
Amit Trivedi on Black Eyed Peas
‘BEP are superior music producers!’
Black Eyed Peas is more of a hip hop group, but their third album, The E.N.D., had a more popish sound. Even Kelly Clarkson is a fantastic singer, and I think in terms of potential, she’s probably better than Fergie. BEP deserved the Best Pop Vocal Album award only because of the overall production of the album. BEP are superior music producers and the album had a great vibe on it, with excellent melody and arrangement. Most of all, the album was quite cool, especially songs like Boom boom, Tonight’s gonna be a good night and most of all, The hai rama remix.
Paresh Kamath on Kings of Leon
‘I’ve played their album on loop’
Kings of Leon is one of the best young bands I’ve heard and they easily deserve the Grammys for Best Record and Best Rock Song. Every time I’ve heard the album, I’ve played it on loop from top to bottom. The singer’s voice is killer! I really like their song Use somebody that they’ve won the awards for, but the album stood out for me for Sex on fire and Notion. I suppose Use somebody was their biggest hit and that’s why it got the Grammys.
