For the second season of MTV's Unplugged this year, AR Rahman is roped in for one of the episodes. “The makers want to bring bigger names on board this time. Having Rahman will be a great asset...”

When MTV introduced the international format of Unplugged in India last October, it brought forth a bevy of Bollywood and indie artistes performing acoustic versions of their popular numbers. Season one featured Rabbi, Indian Ocean, Mohit Chauhan and Rekha Bhardwaj among others. For the second season this year, the show has now roped in AR Rahman for one of the episodes.

“The makers want to bring bigger names on board this time. Having Rahman will be a great asset,” says a source, about the recent development. Singers Lucky Ali and Kailash Kher will also be part of the series. “Both of them have a massive fan following and their songs sound great in acoustic set-ups,” says the insider. This year’s edition will also see composer-drummer Ranjit Barot put together the core bands for the various artistes. “The show did well under his guidance. It was a natural choice to bring him back,” adds the source. It is also rumoured that Pakistani singer Atif Aslam may appear on Unplugged.
