For some, it is an impossible task to maintain a glow of their own when a sibling is the shining star of the house but such has not been the case with Asha Bhosle. Even with the mighty Lata Mangeshkar as her sister, she managed to carve a niche of her own in the Hindi music industry.

From Madhubala lip-syncing to Aaiye Meherbaan in Howrah Bridge (1958) to Aishwarya Rai swinging to Kahin Aag Lage in Taal (1999) and Urmila Matodkar winning hearts with Tanha Tanha in Rangeela (1995), the only thing common is the crisp, sensual voice of Asha taai.

As she turns 81 today, we list ten of her most remembered songs that just don't die out. Have a listen:

1. Aaiye Meherbaan, Howrah Bridge (1958):

2. Sajna Hai Mujhe, Saudagar (1973):

3. Duniya Mein Logon Ko, Apna Desh (1972):

4. Tanha Tanha, Rangeela (1995):

5. Kahin Aag Lage, Taal (1999):

6. Parde Mein Rehne Do, Shikar (1968):

7. Yeh Mera Dil, Don (1978):

8. Dil Cheez Kya Hai, Umrao Jaan (1981)

9. Mera Kuch Saaman, Ijaazat (1978)

10. Radha Kaise Na Jale, Lagaan (2001)
