Having been on the road with her band for the past eight months, singer-songwriter-guitarist Aurora Jane can’t wait to finally get back home to Australia next month. But not before completing a five-city tour of India, that kicks off tonight with a gig in the city.
This is her seventh visit to the country and besides playing at the shows, there are many more things on her to-do list. “I have made a lot of friends here and I can’t wait to meet them. It’s thrilling to be back again. The music scene has also changed in India, with many fresh bands that play new sounds, growing,” says Jane, who is known for her distinctive, peppy funk style.
At her gig last year at Blue Frog, she had teamed up with guitarist Dhruv Ghanekar on stage. Will tonight’s performance include surprise jams as well? “If Dhruv is in the audience, I’m definitely going to invite him to play with us. That way, I can relax a bit on the guitar too,” she says. She will be backed by a Canadian trio, Picture The Ocean, who will also perform a separate set at this gig. “They play alternative pop and jazz. You should really check them out,” she says.
The artiste has also managed to juggle her tour of Canada, Europe and the UK with working on material for her next album. “I’m hoping to put it out by September next year,” she says, adding, “There’s also a new website I’m starting called Mojo Junction which will promote the independent arts — music, videos, adventure etc. It’ll launch in a month’s time.”
Catch Aurora Jane and Picture The Ocean tonight at Blue Frog, Lower Parel at 9 pm. Entry Rs 350. Call 6158 6158.
