In a bid to create an on-ground "youth experience," Channel V India hosted IndiaFest, a two-day college festival in Goa, with over 4,000 colleges participating in the event. Prem Kamath, GM of the channel explains, "The channel wants to create more on-ground youth experiences. This was one such initiative. We got online registrations from over 28,000 colleges from all over the country. We had zonal eliminations where we finally had 5,000 kids who took part."
Finally, on February 4 and 5, the participants came to Goa's Cavelossim beach where IndiaFest was held. Competitions like
Launchpad, Footloose, Beat It, Kahaani Poori Filmi Hai, Story Mein Twist, When Harry Met Sally, Spotlight, Tamaasha, Jazz Junction
were held where the participants displayed their talent in dance, song, fashion and variety shows.
There was no age limit set for the college fest and Kamath said all one needed was a valid college ID to participate in the event. "We took registrations from grad, undergrad and postgrad courses. We didn't want to set an age limit." The channel also came up with an innovative idea to take the on-ground event on Facebook. All those who attended the festival were given an IndiaFest wristband, which had a RFID microchip with their Facebook login details. The participants swiped their band at every box, which automatically updated their Facebook status.
For some indie entertainment, both the evenings had performances by Shaa’ir n Func, Skazi, Shpongle, Indus Creed, Mohit Chauhan and Jalebee Cartel.
