Mumbai may boast of many amateur and semi-professional bands, but one doesn’t get to watch them perform very often. But today and tomorrow, music lovers can witness some of the city’s fresh-on-the-scene bands compete as part of a three-day event titled Cult Rockers.
Day one of the audition, held yesterday at Phoenix Market City, Kurla, saw seven bands compete. The second leg of auditions takes place today and will see another seven bands perform.
Popular city bands Blakc and Bombay Bassment will judge them. Two bands will be chosen and they will compete at the grand finale on August 26. Blakc and Bombay Bassment will also perform on this day.
“We want to highlight bands that perform great music, but don’t get an opportunity to showcase their talent,” says organiser Rajan Joshi, concept head, Souvik Events.
The participating bands were shortlisted from 35 entries that Ranjan received. “I selected these bands after watching their performance videos and gauging their fan following on social networking sites,” says Rajan.
The winning band will perform at various cities that the event will travel to. “We are planning to expand the contest and head to other cities soon,” says Ranjan.
