A coalition of musicians upset over the Recording Academy's decision to drop 31 categories from the Grammy Awards 2012 is stepping up the pressure with a boycott of the Grammys' telecast partner, CBS.
The group has also retained a lawyer to explore legal action against the Recording Academy. In April, the academy announced it was reducing its 109 categories to 78.
Musician Bobby Sanabria claims ethnic music bore the brunt of the cuts and has called them "racist."
In an interview , he repeated those claims, saying he still hopes the Academy will reverse its decision.
The Academy didn't return a request seeking comment.
CBS is scheduled to broadcast the Grammys next February from Los Angeles.
