DJ Drama to headline annual hip hop event

One of the biggest hip-hop DJs in the world, DJ Drama will perform at the Blue Frog tonight.

The American artiste, famed for his Gangsta Grillz series of albums, will headline the Tuborg Vh1 Hip Hop Hustle. Summer Walker will also perform.

“I’m looking forward to experiencing Indian culture, especially since I’m such a big fan of Indian food. I’m excited to try authentic chicken saag” he says.

This is the DJ’s first time in Mumbai. He says he loves checking out new places and cultures, seeing how people live and “what excites them.”

“I like to see what types of things they are vibing out to. I’m sure the hip-hop scene has definitely evolved in Mumbai, as the Internet is making the world a smaller place,” he adds. Drama says he guesses that many Mumbai hip-hop lovers would have listened to his underground Gangsta Grillz mix tapes.

Excited about Mumbai
“I know they are well aware of what is hot in the US. And I’m excited to learn what’s hot over there. I’m looking forward to playing new stuff from there and bringing it back to the States,” he continues.

Those coming on Wednesday can expect “exciting, quality hip-hop, something that makes the club and crowd happening.

“I try to take what’s popular in the States and make the crowd react to it,” he explains. DJ Drama collaborated with well-known rapper Akon on the single Day dreamin from his first album, Gangsta Grillz: The Album.

“Working with Akon was great... I’ve known him for a long time. He is a true international success story. I’m proud of what he's done for the culture,” he says.

Hip-hop nights
This is the fourth edition of the annual hip hop event at the Blue Frog, and has, in the past, brought hip-hop DJs such as Mims, Green Lantern, and Chamillionaire to the city.
