After rock giants Megadeth and Slayer confirmed their India tours, pleasing hardcore metal-heads, jazz buffs got their fix with the announcement of Norah Jones’s concert in the city next March. Now, pop fans have a reason to celebrate — Enrique Iglesias will be performing in three cities next month.
The Bailamos singer, however, will give Mumbai a miss. Instead, he’ll travel to Bengaluru, New Delhi and Pune for his concerts on October 17, 19 and 21 respectively.
“Getting a good venue in Mumbai is a nightmare. Pune has a lot of positive points in terms of great venues and a good college-going crowd. And people from Mumbai don’t really mind travelling to Pune to attend a big concert,” says Vijay Nair, CEO, Only Much Louder, the artiste-event management firm that is bringing the singer down to the country.
Enrique, who last performed in India in 2004, says, “It’s been a long time since then and I have been dying to come back and perform in front of one of the best and craziest crowds in the world! I’m excited about this visit and promise to put up a great show and do my best so everyone has a great time; it’s going to be awesome.”
The formal announcement of his tour, made late on Saturday night, finally puts to rest the speculation about his much-touted visit. “We had been planning this for a long time. The India tour coincides with Enrique’s Middle-East tour (Dubai and Turkey). It will also be a good chance for a lot of his younger fans to watch him live for the first time,” says Nair.
