Everyone’s humming the Kabira track from Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, and Sufism seems to be the flavour of the moment, in Bollywood and beyond.
Now, in sync with their timeless popularity, three timeless poets of free thought — Kabirdas, Tulsidas and Surdas — are being paid a tribute in the city at this event. Sun Bhai Sadho, being organised by Delhi Government’s Department of Art, Culture and Languages and Hindi, is a musical-dramatic event which revolves around the lives of the three legendary Bhakti poets and how their couplets are ageless and most relevant in today’s age and time.
The mono-act play, which was inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit along with minister for education, languages, social welfare, women and children development, Kiran Walia, on Tuesday, will run for four days. It aims to bring alive the three iconic characters in their full form and cheer.
“Sun Bhai Sadho is our attempt to not only highlight their contribution but also remind people how these saints promoted complete devotion through an all-loving approach to mankind. Keeping our saints alive is key to keeping our composite and harmonious culture alive,” says Dr Harisuman Bisht, author and secretary of the Hindi academy.
The show will be presented by Shekhar Sen, a singer, music composer, lyricist and an actor. He’ll enact the three and present a musical monologue. “Initially I was not sure if I could do justice to it. But once I collected the material, started writing and interspersed it with his music, it was a wonderful experience.” says Shekhar Sen, artist, about how he made his script.
