In the past one year, the monthly gigs series at Mehboob Studios — Live From The Console (LFTC) — has become a quick fix for indie music buffs in the city. Its USP — a no-frills concert-like experience coupled with the best indoor acoustics to listen to upcoming bands and artistes — has worked well.
Now LFTC is all set to host a music festival in Goa on December 29 and 30, where the most popular acts from the Mumbai series will perform. “The idea is to expose more people to indie music. The Mumbai gigs have a dedicated but repeat audience. We need to expand to our secondary audience that will come only if there’s an experience
on offer,” says Owen Roncon, partner, Oranjuice Entertainment that initiated the Mumbai event in partnership with Sony Music.
The organisers hope that the beachside venue (Colva beach in south Goa) and a line-up that includes international artistes will attract new listeners. The festival will be headlined by Julian Marley, a Grammy Award-nominated performer and son of reggae legend Bob Marley. “Julian is our poster boy. We cannot have a festival in Goa and not have a reggae artiste!” With EDM fest Sunburn scheduled for December 27-29, is he worried about the footfalls at LFTC? “Sunburn is a large festival, whereas we’re looking at a smaller audience. Also, there are a lot of people who don’t want to be part of the EDM scene.” Adds Jayesh Veralkar, Sony Music, “With this fest, we want to take the indoor feel to the outdoors.” LFTC will also kickstart its Kolkata series early next year.
