We don’t believe in conspiracy theories, and so we won’t comment on rapper-composer Yo Yo Honey Singh, originally Hridesh Singh’s, whereabouts in the last 15-16 months. One thing is clear, though: He was definitely unavailable in the market.

Now, when he has announced his return to the big bad game of Bollywood music, competitors would be hoping for a less effective Honey Singh. The skilful manner in which he threw each of his competitors out of the market and became the highest priced voice of the entire industry is only too well known.

Singh has already started the verbal battle by comparing one of his former co-singers with Nano. But, will it be a cakewalk for Honey Singh if he decides to reclaim his empire? We have taken a look at some his biggest competitions in the market, and the names that popped up hint towards the uphill task Singh has to face now.

Watch: Biggest hits of Yo Yo Honey Singh

Badshah: If there’s anyone who has made Honey Singh sound obscure, it’s rapper Badshah. He was a big star in North India even when Honey Singh was active, but his meteoric rise in the last couple of years has made him a hot favourite with Bollywood producers. What he started with ‘Abhi toh party shuru hui hai’ (Khoobsurat) reached its zenith in ‘Aaj raat ka scene’ (Zajbaa).

Raftaar: He also started his career with Honey Singh in the 2009 song Beer Bar, but went on to create his own name and brand with films such as Heropanti and Gabbar Is Back. His apparent focus on the individual album market kept him from Bollywood music, but now when he is well established, he can be the biggest throne in Honey Singh’s way.

Fazilpuria: Music lovers of the Delhi-NCR area knew Rahul Yadav aka Fazilpuria since 2-3 years, but the super success of ‘Ladki beautiful, kar gayi chull’ made him a household name. Now, when the makers of Kapoor And Sons have decided to feature the same song in their film, his popularity is likely to rise manifolds.

DSP: Devi Sri Prasad is creating quite a stir in the music market since 15 years, but it’s only now that the Hindi music lovers have started reading his name beneath a song. Thanks to ‘Mummy daddy’ from Bhaag Johnny, DSP has fetched a lot of attention.

Meet Brothers, Kanika Kapoor: This collaboration is the real threat to Honey Singh as they have a series of hits in their kitty. From ‘baby doll’ to ‘Most wanted munda’, they have fingers on the right pulse of the youth. Their catchy tunes can give any rival a good run for their money.
