Back in 2008, brothers Paresh and Naresh Kamath decided to set up an alternative act apart from the Kailash Kher-fronted band Kailasa that they’ve been a part of. Hipnotribe was formed, and it managed to fascinate curious listeners with their diverse sound.  Their past gigs have been a mix of artistes with varied musical backgrounds. But it’s been a while since the funk/jazz/rock band did a gig in the city.

“We’ve been busy with Kailasa, which is a heavy touring band. But since monsoon is the only time of the year when things go a little easy, we thought of picking up for shows for Hipnotribe,” says lead guitarist Paresh, as the band preps for their gig tonight (July 17) at Blue Frog, Lower Parel. He will be joined by Naresh (bass), Jose Neil Gomes (guitar, violin and saxophone), Sameer Chiplunkar (keyboard) and Kurt Peters (drums) for the show.

“We’ll be performing five new songs. But we’re playing this gig minus a percussion player, who couldn’t make it, so we had to change the arrangements of a few songs,” adds Paresh. The outfit is looking forward to releasing their upcoming album, Dark & Delicious. “We’ve been considering the best way to go about it; whether we should release it independently or through a label. We are in talks with two companies,” he informs. That’s not all. The band is also going to feature in an upcoming music travel show. “Later this month, we’ll be travelling to Madhya Pradesh to collaborate with a folk singer. We’re planning to include that song in the album too, as it goes with the entire theme,” says Paresh.
