Popular Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali not just leaves people spellbound with his songs, but he also leaves them floored, thanks to his humble and calm persona. Dressed in a black shirt, brown corduroy trousers, wearing black aviators and flip flops, Shafqat, 49, told us that he does not like crazy fans.
“I do not like talking about the crazy fans. Because then there’s this norm that you get talked about in the news only if you are crazy. I adore fans whose love for me is genuine. There is this one woman in Abu Dhabi, who runs a blog, Everything Shafqat. Then there is another one, who has been a friend since college days. He has archived all photos, right from my college days, be it my first single, my first video and first album. He bumped into me in London and that’s where he told me about it. He didn’t call me or inform me about this before, and that’s why I love talking about such fans.”
Shafqat, whose last album, Kyun Dooriyan, came out in 2010, cannot believe it has been four years since his last album and promises there will be a new album soon. “I apologise. I never realised it has been this long. It feels like yesterday. But, we are working on a new album, it will be out soon,” he says.

Ask him when does he plan to announce the date, and he says, “I can never pinpoint a date. There are so many things that can go wrong. You know, sometimes, there is a political disturbance in Pakistan, because of which you can’t release an album. Sometimes your music producer is out, sometimes I am on a tour.”
“So, when we discuss that we will announce an album on this date, there’s a minimum four-month buffer period that we keep in mind,” Shafqat rounded off the conversation, before giving us a teaser of his new song.
