After top international DJ, David Guetta’s rocking performance in March, it’s now British DJ, Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim, 48, who will make the city’s crowd go crazy. And he says he’s a big fan of Indian classical singer, Anoushka Shankar.
Cook’s concert, presented by 6th Dimension Entertainment, will take place at Gurgaon’s Huda Grounds tomorrow. And, he’s looking forward to connect with the people of India. “All my Indian friends say that’s the friendliest country in the world,” says the DJ, who chose to call himself Fatboy Slim as it’s an oxymoron (a figure of speech that combines contradictory terms).
Known for songs such as Right Here Right Now, Weapon of Choice, and The Rockafeller Skank, among others, Cook says his India performance will be “bits of my old tunes, and some new ones but mainly other people’s,” adding: “Guetta opened a lot of doors to our music internationally but I prefer underground stuff like his majesty Andre.”
When here, trying ‘real’ Indian food is on Cook’s must do list. “I eat much of the English take on Indian food. It’ll be nice to taste the real thing,” says the DJ, who unlike most international performers hasn’t asked for any special facilities for his India tour. “All I require is a bed, a bath and high speed broadband,” says Cook.
Ask him about Bollywood and he says, “I must confess, we don’t get to see any Bollywood where I live.”
