I could’ve been killed: BJP minister Babul Supriyo on being attacked

Singer-politician Babul Supriyo is recovering at home in Delhi from an injury that could’ve been fatal, he says. The 45-year-old was in Asansol recently, and was attacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress workers on his way to a police station to secure release of some of his partymen.
“A solid brick was hurled at me from a distance, right on my chest. I could’ve been killed. I’m hurt. But I’ll be okay,” he says. Supriyo shares that the protestors broke the security bundobust to attack him. “The Police allowed those goons near me. They broke my car’s windscreen and were hurling stones at me. I dodged all of them but the one that hit me was a solid brick... I didn’t run for cover, hide in my car or hide behind my security cover. I faced the goons,” says Supriyo, happy with his stance of standing his ground.
“I did not allow my heavily-armed CRPF security to hit back. I basically kept my cool and I’m happy about that. Physical injuries heal, but bad decisions don’t. It’s a wise me today,” he says.
Asked why the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee hasn’t reacted as yet, Supriyo says: “She can’t reprimand her vote bank, can she?”
