Highlight Story

Song during school years: Hero from Music Box (Mariah Carey). I’ve been a huge fan of her and would always sing this song. The lyrics have always been an inspiration since they say that the hero lies within you.

Song during college years : Lean on me from Still Bill (Bill Withers). It was the first song I sang in college, so it’s special. In fact, Viva even gave me a spiral book with the song’s lyrics on top.

Song during first love: Heal the world from Dangerous (Michael Jackson). It’s a weird choice. That’s because I was far too young when I had my first crush. I was nine, and I was in a choir with another boy, and we’d sing this song in the choir.

Song during first heartbreak : Please forgive me from So Far So Good (Bryan Adams). My boyfriend wrote the lyrics of the song on a card and gave it to me after the break up.. I cried! (Laughs) Also, Aansoo bhari hain yeh jeevan ki rahein from Parvarish (Mukesh).

Song for all seasons : In these arms from Keep the Faith (Bon Jovi). My sister used to love this song. So every time I hear this, I’m reminded of her.

Song to dance to: Maria Maria from Supernatural (Santana). It’s a slow, sensuous song and my friend and I loved doing salsa on it. And our respective boyfriend and girlfriend couldn’t stand that!

Song for gymming : Free fallin’ from Full Moon Fever (Tom Petty). I really don’t know why!

Song for long walks : Rehab from Good Girl Gone Bad (Rihanna). It’s on repeat these days.

Song for drives: Irreplaceable from B’Day (Beyonce). It’s a song telling the guys to get lost. Always makes me feel good about myself when I put it on full volume and drive!

Song for mornings: I prefer hearing a constant Gayatri mantra or an Om chanting in the morning post my riyaaz

Song when stressed : Another day in paradise from But Seriously (Phil Collins). The song speaks volumes. It tells you what life is all about.

Song when romantic: Love bites from Hysteria (Def Leppard). Because it’s a sexy, sensuous song and so is She’s like the wind from Dirty Dancing OST (Patrick Swayze). Most of all, Have you ever really loved a woman from 18 Till I Die (Bryan Adams). I think Bryan Adams was the only one who got it right. The lyrics are brilliant.

Song when inspired: We are the champions from News of the World (Queen). I actually hate people with a loser-ish attitude.. I like people who are inspired.

Song that you’d serenade a guy with: She’s got the look from Look Sharp! (Roxette). Because I’ve got the look. This is a song which automatically leads to a lap dancing situation. There’d be no serenading needed after that!

Song you’d like to be serenaded with: She’s the most beautiful girl in the world from The Gold Experience (Prince) because it says that the girl is beautiful from outside and within. Sing it and you’ve got me.. but sing it well!

Song of a colleague: Teri deewani from Kailasa (Kailash Kher).

Song of a legend (Indian) : Mera kuch samaan from Ijaazat (Asha Bhosle). My mother used to sing this song a lot. I also love the way it’s shot.

Song that others connect you with: Hero from Music Box (Mariah Carey)

Song that best describes you: Candle in the wind from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Elton John). Because I’m hard outside but a softie within. Many have tried to blow me away, but I keep lighting! Also, Walks like a lady, Wide
River
(Steve Miller Band). Because I may act like a woman, but my actions always betray that I’m still a child!

(As told to Nikhil Taneja)
