This year, he's belted some of the finest tracks in the movies.. never mind the duds (Dhol, Raqeeb, Kaisey Kahein). Overall, composer Pritam Chakraborty looks back at 2007 with satisfaction:

So, it's been quite a successful year for you.
Yes. But I think 2006 had given me bigger hits like Dhoom 2, Bhagam Bhag, Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Apna Sapna Money Money. This year, I'm quite proud of my compositions in Jab We Met, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Awarapan. At the end of the day, I have a smile on my face when I sleep.

You've trimmed down your hair. Is it for the Star Voice Of India Chhote Ustaad show?
Haan. I thought that I'd look better with trimmed hair. It goes well with my profile, especially with the kind of rock songs I compose.

Okay rock star, do you plan to do a Himesh Reshammiya?
No.. never. I can't imagine myself acting even in my dreams. Himesh tasted success with acting but that doesn't imply that every composer who tries acting will do well. I don't think I'm a good singer either. Please let me be happy as a music director only.

Hello, you sang In dino in Life In A … Metro.. your voice wasn't there on the audio CD though.
That was a one-off instance. I've never felt that a music director has to be a good singer.. as long as he can explain to his singers and musicians how to go about a song.

Update me on band Metro please.
I'm the guitarist and back-up vocalist. Our album will be out soon. We're also doing live shows. James is in Bangladesh. He frequently visits India.

James and you seem to complement each other quite well.
He has a fantastic voice that goes perfectly with folk rock songs. But that doesn't mean I will use his voice for all the folk rock songs I compose.

Will Himesh Reshammiya and you work together for Anurag Basu?
I'm not working with Anurag right now. We are friends first and then professionals. So, not working with him doesn't matter. I am ready to work with him when he comes up with a new script.

What's next?
Jahnu Barua's Har Pall, Aziz Mirza's Kismat Connection, Vipul Shah's Singh Is Kinng, Vishesh Films' Jannat, Sanjay Gadhvi's Kidnap and Abbas Mustan's Race. I'm also working on an animated film called Kutty Chetan. I've done six songs for it with the Voice Of India contestants.
