Singer-composer Sukh E believes music should be written for the audience.

If one wonders how Punjabi composer-singer Sukh E belts out hit after hit and stays on top of his game despite competition, he says it’s because he makes music his listeners can relate to.

“It is not easy to maintain yourself in the industry. After my first song, Sniper became famous, I knew I had to work harder to sustain the success, I received because of my debut single. There are several one hit wonders, who released one hit and then disappeared. Because they stopped connecting with the audience,” he says.

“Then I released Jaguar, which was an even bigger hit than Sniper. I think the secret to my success is the fact that I write songs, which everyone can relate to. Jaguar talked about boys’ passion for cars and going out for long drives with their girlfriends. Fans could relate to the song and that’s why they liked it,” he adds.

However, its not just the music that Sukh E believes makes him stand out from other musicians. “I even focussed on my looks. I got this hairstyle and started following a lot of cool fashion trends. Usse Kya hota hai ki aap bilkul alag lagte ho. Now fans want to keep the same hairstyle as me. They even come up tome and ask, ‘Paaji mujhe bhi aapke jaise hairstyle karwana hai’,” he says.

Most importantly for Sukh E however is that the musician should enjoy his work and should not be forced into making music. “It has always been exciting for me, and I think that reflects in my music. Jab koi sunta hai mere gaane toh who yehi bolta hai, ki yeh bahot maze kar raha hai. If you don’t enjoy making music, it will not reflect in your songs and people will lose interest in that artist eventually,” he says.
