The season of music festivals continues with India Music Week. The three-city event will feature almost 50 bands, besides conducting workshops and conferences

Indie music lovers might still be debating the hits and misses of the recently concluded Pune edition of Bacardi NH7 Weekender, but starting next week, there is another festival to look forward to on this season's busy music calendar.

The second edition of Seagram's 100 Pipers India Music Week (IMW) will be held across Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru from November 21 to 25. The festival will feature around 50 Indian and international bands and also host a series of music workshops and panel discussions on the growth of independent music in India.

The artiste line-up includes festival regulars like the Delhi-based rock and roll band Parikrama and Friends, known for its fusion of rock sounds and Indian classical music instruments. Also joining the league would be a north-east-based blues band Soulmate, Dualist Inquiry from Delhi, a Sri Lankan percussion band Naadro and a Norwegian ensemble Lemaitre, among others. "The festival was conceptualised and designed by the late Amit Saigal (founder, Rock Street Journal). He was considered the face of indie music in India. This year, we are taking forward his vision," says Anirban Chakraborty, executive director, Rock Street Journal. "This year is special for two reasons. First, there are many more artistes performing, making the event a lot more diverse. Second, the headlining performances are bigger in scale," he adds.

By bringing together representatives from the music industry to give upcoming professionals an inside view of the business, IMW is aimed at being much more than just a platform for artistes to perform. The topics for the panel discussions range from the opportunities available in the ad-jingles circuit to the advantages of digital promotion of music and the growth of music festivals in the past few years, among many others."We are focusing on solution-based interactive sessions, where the participants gain from the experiences of the veterans," says Chakraborty.

IMW has big plans for the future too. "We want the fest to become a focal point, where talent from the SAARC nations could be showcased. The dialogue part of the fest also has to get bigger," he says, adding, "But we are taking one step at a time. It is only the second year."
