Some may be out to slam Yo Yo Honey Singh for the cuss words in the lyrics of some of his songs, but the newest Punjabi pop sensation doesn’t care. Instead, the 28-year-old, who is on top of club playlists with his latest tracks Dope Shope, Angreji Beat and Audi Saadi, looks forward to performing in the Capital tonight.
“No comments,” is what he says to his singles titled C**** and Condom, and other Hindi obscenities that feature in the lyrics of his earlier albums.
He says his new hit, Dope Shope was inspired by a friend’s girlfriend. “I create something which the society adores. The idea behind the song came from a friend’s English girlfriend who was into dope. It was amazing to do a fusion on it,” says Singh, who performs at Zygo in Gurgaon tonight.
Explaining the ‘Yo Yo’ prefix to his name, the music graduate from the School of Trinity, London, says, “I never wanted to be a rapper but my fans and their love for me made go ‘yo yo’ ... it is an American slang which means
