It's time to enjoy the beats of thumping drums, as one of the world's top percussionists, Gilad Dobrecky, who has performed on the sound tracks of Hollywood films such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Hunger Games, performs today at the Purana Qila.
"I am very excited and thrilled that I will be playing in India again, and this time as a solo artist," says Gilad.
He adds, "India is one of those countries where music and art is an integral part of its folkloristic style of living. It has a lot of respect for its culture and music, especially for percussion, tabla, merdangan, ghatam and kanjira. It's one of the main reasons why I love coming back to this country."
Talking about his performance, the Israeli percussionist says, "I want to share with my audience the respect I have for our instruments and culture in my own way. This time my performance is a journey of different colours and stories," adding, "I believe the audience in Delhi will understand those deep value connections I have with my music and instrument."
He further explains, "I compose and perform on different percussion instruments, other instruments include the Bulgarian flute and the native-American strum stick, as well as some vocal sounds and singing."
He adds, "I try to create an interesting show by playing a few tunes on a large percussion-drums set-up, alongside tunes from minimal instrumentation. At various points, I keep using the loop machine and create layers of rhythms and sounds."
