After casting a spell on pre-teens and teens with his bubblegum-pop hits, Justin Bieber feels it’s time to expand his fanbase. The Canadian teen pop-singer, who shot to fame with his first hit Baby feels that his music has evolved since. “My sound has definitely become a little more mature. As I’m growing older, I want to make music that older audiences can relate to as well,” says Bieber, who recently released his third studio album, Believe with Universal Music.
“This album actually has a lot of different genres. It’s got club songs, R&B and even ballads. So I really hope people appreciate it,” says the 18-year-old.
The album also features his collaborations with veteran artistes such as Ludacris, Big Sean, Drake and Nicki Minaj. “I really like these guys and I’m always listening to their music. I’m so glad I could have them on this album. It had always been my dream to collaborate with Michael Jackson. I really wish that would’ve come true,” he says.
A classic YouTube success story, Bieber’s videos on the website were first spotted by artiste manager Scooter Braun, who gave the teenager his big break. Ask him where he sees himself five years down the line and he says, “I would still want my fans to love me and I would like my music to be more experimental and grow with my age.”
Touring India is also on his mind: “I know I have a lot of fans in India. So yeah, I would really love to visit the country, meet my fans and experience a new culture.” How about a collaboration with an Indian artiste? “Never say never! I’m open to teaming up with different people and experimenting with different genres of music,” he says.
