After battling tough competition for last nineteen weeks, Punjab
Kamal Khan finally won Zee TV’s
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa
With 19,44,814 votes, the 21-year-old Patiala boy beat Abhilasha Chellum (18, 318,23 votes) of Mumbai and Bishakh Jyoti (17,22,659) of Kolkata to win the title. Khan also walked away with the newly-launched Grande MK II car and a Hero Honda ZMR bike along with a one year scholarship at A R Rehman’s K M Music Conservatory in Chennai.
Sharing his excitement, Khan who was a part of Vishal Shekhar’s
, said, “I have learnt a lot throughout this show and I am overwhelmed by the fact that I am the first Punjabi to have ever won this show.”
Ask him if he was nervous about the finale, he says, “I was not nervous. I justwanted to give my 100 percent. I know Bishakh and Abhilasha are also great singers and I would have been equally happy if either of them would have won.”
On being asked about his future projects, Khan who has already sung few Bollywood songs including
Wallah Re Wallah
in Farah Khan’s
Tees Maar Khan
says, “I just want to do great singing. I have a song coming up with Shankar Mahadevan. Let’s see how it turns out to be.” Is he worried about anything, “No. But I just don’t want pride to affect me like it does many. I want to remain humble.”
The finale saw ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali singing hits like
Dil Yeh Pagal Dil
Hungama Kyun Hai Barpa
with Ranjeet Rajwada, a contestant on the show.
Moreover, the hip hop fusion act by choreographer Rajiv Surthi, performances by Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi, Vishal and Shekhar, Mika and director duo Sajid-Wajid left the audiences wanting for more.
