Highlight Story

Tamil-English song Kolaveri Di is a rage all over but music legend M Balamuralikrishna says he has never heard of it.

"I don't know, I have not heard it. Must be nice, otherwise you wouldn't have asked about it," the famed Carnatic vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and play back singer said when asked about the number which went on from being an internet viral to a rage even outside the country.

When pointed out that it was sung by Dhanush, son-in-law of Rajnikanth, he quipped, "Because it's by Rajnikanth's son-in-law, it has become popular" but quickly added, "there must be something (in the song that made it popular)."

Meanwhile, Balamuralikrishna said he is confident of the role of musical therapy in medical treatment. "I have done it. I have experimented with some persons without their knowledge. I have confidence. Music therapy is good,"

Balamuralikrishna said, adding that there should be support for music therapy research. "We don't have it (an institution engaged in music therapy research)". On his unfulfilled dream, the 81-year-old, who has performed at 25,000 concerts, the first when he was just seven years old, said, "So much more I have to know about music.

I am only sorry that I am getting aged. Now only I know what more I have to know what I don't know." Balamuralikrishna said he does not have any educational qualification at all. "I went to school for only three months and failed in quarterly exam.

I got a 'full moon'... zero". The maestro is here to participate in A Charity Fusion Concert, a Carnatic Jazz and World Fusion Concert to be held tomorrow featuring him and Indian classical and fusion violinist Dr Jyotsna Srikanth from the UK.
