Lady Gaga has been bitten by the Bollywood bug. The 25-year-old international pop queen now has a Bollywood remix of her latest chartbuster, Born This Way, complete with dhol and sitar.
Gaga has teamed up with Indian composer duo Salim-Sulaiman to give an Indian twist to her new single. "When we started working on the remix, we were very nervous, as it was the number one track in 23 countries. The sitar was ideal when it came to creating a melodic riff. Of course, there was the dhol and dholak to create the Indian and party feel, and what really rocked it all was Salim’s voice," says Sulaiman.
The team took four days to come up with the four-minute remix, and were given complete independence to play with the beats. The producers, Desi Hits, say Gaga is pleased with the Indian version. Her manager Troy Carter says, "We’re looking forward to more desi collaborations in the near future." A source close to the composers adds that Gaga is keen to visit India, and Salim-Sulaiman, too, will be travelling to the US to meet the star next month.
Gaga will also release an urban-desi version of the song for Britain’s South Asian market. Created and produced by Culture Shock, this version fuses bhangra with elements of dubstep. The launch date for the India remix is yet to be decided. Meanwhile, its video is out on the Web.
