If you’ve been following the monthly gigs at Mehboob Studio, Bandra, you’ll know that Live From The Console (LFTC) has so far promoted various low-key indie acts. Over the past few months, Mumbai’s music fraternity has witnessed bands like Airport, Medusa (now Sky Rabbit), Peter Cat Recording Co. and The Mavyns.
However, the sixth edition of LFTC that takes place tonight at 8 pm will see Norwegian pop band, Lucy Swann Trio, play a mix of acoustic and electronic music along with some beat-boxing. The three-member outfit consists of singer Lucy Swann, beat-boxer Julian Sommerfelt and double-bass player Christian Skjønhaug.
Ask the band’s 30-year-old lead singer to describe her music and Swann says, “My music is kind of electronic with acoustic elements thrown in. There’s a cold droning feel with warm double bass. It’s a lot more vocal-based though, with plenty of loops as well.”
According to Swann, the play list for the night will include songs from her critically acclaimed first album La Petite Mort with some improvisations. For college-goers who may not be able to make it to the show tonight, Swann will also perform at Mood Indigo, IIT Powai on December 19.
So, are there any plans for another trip to India in the future? “I wish to learn the Indian scales and the classical singing technique, so I hope to come back,” says Swann.
