Before becoming a successful actor, Gippy Grewal was a popular singer. But he says no matter how big an actor he becomes, singing will never become his second priority.

“Independent music will never take a back seat. Whatever I am today is because of music. My fans around the globe know me as a singer first and then an actor. I believe it is my strength. Plenty of my songs are coming up,” says Grewal, who has given hit tracks such as Chakk Ley, Akh Larh Gayi, Angrezi Beat and Party Like A Punjabi.

He has also been part of the Punjabi film industry and given hits such as Mel Karade Rabba (2010), Lucky Di Unlucky Story (2013) and Jatt James Bond (2014).

He made his Bollywood debut with Second Hand Husband and says that taught him a lot.“No matter where you go, life teaches you a lot. I learnt so many things when I did Second Hand Husband and how Bollywood works. I have signed more Bollywood films and my fans will get to see more of me in times to come,” he says.

Bollywood films like Jab We Met, Bhaag Milkhaa Bhaag, Mausam and Sarbjit have shown Punjabi culture with grandeur and Grewal is very happy about it. “We want more films in Punjab but true Punjab should be shown. We have struggled a lot as a community and there are many things that still need to make it to the silver screen. It is amazing that Bollywood has presented the culture in such an amazing manner,” says Grewal, who will soon be in the film Kaptaan.
