Veteran musician Neil Diamond has given the cash obtained from the sales of T-shirts and souvenirs at his concert to the victims of Hurricane Ike.
The ‘Heartlight’ hitmaker revealed his heart wept when he saw the wretched condition of the Texan victims hit by the 2008 hurricane.
That moment itself Neil decided that what better way to accumulate money for the victims than through his loyal audience.
"Hurricane Ike hit southern Texas so fiercely and has been forgotten about by the rest of the country - but these people are still in desperate straits, and are in dire need of our help,” Contactmusic quoted Neil, as telling CNN.
Neil revealed that the city''s Mayor gave him a private tour of the worst-hit areas, so that he could see what the hurricane hit people were going through.
"I saw what was going on. The mayor of Houston took me around, and he told me about it and introduced me to some people. The next day, I drove down to some of the hardest-hit areas, and I just felt that I had to do something, and I felt that maybe my audience would help me out with it,” Neil said.
