,
launched at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai last year, the band intersperses the craft of Qissa Goi- a story-telling art once widely prevalent in parts of northern India and contemporary Indian music.
"It is India’s first writer led band. It has a story-telling and song concept (kind of an audio movie)," says Misra, who has penned hits like
Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai
and
Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai
, and has to his credit 30 songs in over 15 Bollywood films.
"We are not restricting ourselves to any genre. The band is rooted in the soul of modern India. We’ll be exploring a variety of themes. For the next album, we will travel across the country and jam with the local talent of the country, giving them due credit and making their part as contemporary as possible," he says.
Other members of the band include Shilpa Rao as the lead vocalist, Amartya Rahut as composer and Abhishek Nailwal as the male singer. Nine has cut its nine track debut album titled
Rewind
.
"Our first album is painted across the wallpapers of nostalgia. It’s strung together by a narrative by me," he says. Talking about future plans, Misra informs that the band is in talks to compose music for films and also in the pipeline is a reality show.
Misra has also lend vocals for two songs in their maiden album.
