This Tuesday, on stage at the Festival de Carcassonne in France,
announced the end of his career. The British artist surprised the audience during the third song of the show, Candle in the Wind, by announcing his plans to retire and spend more time with his family.
"No more shows, no more music, no more songs," Elton John declared on stage, according to the French regional newspaper L'Indépendant.

The 67-year-old artist, who has sold nearly 250 million albums worldwide during his career of over 40 years, is scheduled to play several concerts across Europe before the end of 2014. This is not the first time the performer has made statements regarding his possible retirement, and for the time being there is no indication on whether he will actually cancel upcoming shows.
Elton John's most recent album, The Diving Board, was released in 2013.
